Dedicated racing steering wheels hold several advantages over stock, factory wheels - they are lighter and simpler, smaller for quicker steering reaction, with better grip for driving gloves. But removing a stock wheel on a modern BMW creates havoc with the vehicle electronics and airbag sensors. KMP Drivetrain of The Netherlands has reverse-engineered the communications and pass-through controls needed to use a racing steering wheel with no errors and faults.

* - Customize your wheel:
Connector Options: fixed 44mm hub or quick-release hub
Spec Options: with "free" un-programmed buttons or with M1/M2 and DTC buttons (plus one free button)

If you select the "with Free Buttons" option, you will receive a wheel with all buttons un-programmed for you to configure as you wish. The buttons use a switched to ground connection so no power is run through them. Wires are terminated with BMW factory socket pins and routed through the hub and ready for connection. For track use we suggest wiring buttons for data display, flash-to-pass, radio, map switching, or other functions if you have deleted the column stalks. When using an AiM dash you will also need the AiM Remote Button Interface (see link below). KMP can laser engrave the button functions if you're set on their function. However, our advice is to skip the laser engraving in case functions change in the future. Custom engraving will add cost and delivery time to your order.

Some very minor wiring work is required. This involves removing pin(s) from original connectors and re-installing them in new, supplied connectors. Small screwdrivers or pick tools will be required. Cutting, splicing, or soldering is not required for most OEM functions unless your wheel options call for it.

Gen1 Wheel Design - this is the first generation KMP wheel which is being phased out for the Gen2 wheel. They are very similar but the Gen2 has an overall cleaner hub design as well as more button options. Gen1 wheel availability may be limited or restricted to special orders only. This product is intended for racing, competition, track, hobby, or other off-road use. We cannot guarantee it will conform to all federal, state, or local regulations for required vehicle safety equipment and we do not encourage its use in any motor vehicle subject to state safety inspection. The mounting hub is a solid, non-collapsible design that may cause serious bodily injury in an accident. Removing the airbag is a serious safety risk and should never be done when stock 3-point seat belts are still in use. 4 or 6-point racing harnesses must be used instead. The smaller wheel rim may block the stock instrument cluster depending on seating position.
